From Survivors to Thrivers: How The Punk Rock Therapist is Transforming Lives in the Entertainment World

The Punk Rock Therapist serves as a way to connect the innumerable survivors who have shared, or are ready to share, their own stories of exploitation and abuse at the hands of men in the entertainment industry, encompassing fields such as music, film, fashion, theatre, and sports. Through therapy, TPRT aims to empower individuals to voice their stories, foster community support, and guide them on their journey from being victims to survivors, and ultimately, thrivers.

The TPRT initiative was established by Kristina Sarhadi, a Holistic Psychotherapist, Reiki Master, published author, and social worker with 15 years of experience, alongside Sam Maloney, a rock drummer, music executive, and consultant who has assisted multiple survivors of sexual assault in the music sector.

Karen Barth Menzies has represented many women survivors of sexual assault and abuse in the music and entertainment realm. She is proud to be partnering with TPRT to further her mission of providing personal, individual legal representation to survivors of sexual assault and abuse.

“The Punk Rock Therapist isn’t just a therapeutic service; it’s a community where survivors unite, each harnessing their unique strengths in the name of a global reckoning,” said Menzies. “Together we are helping survivors address trauma, speak about abusers, and build a future of compassion, community care, and enduring happiness.”

The Punk Rock Therapist was recently profiled by RollingStone Magazine in an article discussing allegations against former Anti-Flag lead singer Justin Sane made by Sarhadi and 12 other survivors.

Survivors of assault in the entertainment industry are encouraged to contact The Punk Rock Therapist to arrange a free therapy session or to support the movement in any way they can.

Through stories like Sarhadi’s, the world has become more aware of the deep-seated issues within the entertainment sector. Efforts like TPRT are crucial in ensuring that survivors are not just heard, but also supported and empowered. Their mission is a testament to the resilience and strength of women and the collective drive to create a safer, more compassionate industry for all.
